Just because my path is different, doesn't mean its wrong!
“To be a leader is not to have a huge position. To be a leader is to see your job as a chance to inspire the world, no matter what your job is.”
Inspire the world seems like a tall order but…
– inspiring one person to believe that working hard does matter
– or that putting in overtime can benefit the entire team
– or that they can succeed with tackling an unknown task
…then I believe you are a good leader.
The inspiration is what is important.
As a leader in a large corporation, there are a lot of challenges to tackle and a lot of change going on. Attrition is a big concern, but the bigger concern is the idea of “doing less with more”. Eventually this just leaves people burned out and over-worked.
Inspiring my team, is all about getting my team to be better at estimated how long a project might take, to embrace that the whole team owns getting the work completed on schedule and to put in the work that is necessary to complete the tasks at hand.
Lead-up is focused more on providing details to leadership to help them understand what my team is doing and what priorities are for my team. This information is critical for my team to be seen as quickly responding to issues and for communicating blockers effectively.
